Start anytime, and read through a great cross-section of the Bible, hitting the highlights in about 2 chapters a day, eventually including at least one chapter from every one of the 66 books, Old and New Testament. You will get to read from a different section of the Bible each day of the week, which keeps things fresh and interesting. E.g. gospels on Saturdays, epistles on Sundays, Psalms on Wednesdays, etc.
This plan includes 683 chapters (out of 1189 in the entire Bible) - a lighter, modified version of the excellent Entire Bible 52-week reading plan, by Michael Coley. I adapted this to use the next year after I had read the whole Bible and needed a lighter schedule for a breather.
